Job Description
As a Loan Officer, you will be responsible for identifying prospective borrowers, assessing and approving loan applications, monitoring repayments, and ensuring efficient collections. This role combines financial advisory, customer relationship management, and field collections activities.
You will play a key role in growing the loan portfolio while minimizing default rates through effective credit assessment and proactive recovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Acquisition & Loan Origination
Identify and approach potential clients through field visits, referrals, and community engagement.
Promote loan products and educate clients on terms, conditions, and repayment obligations.
Assist clients in completing application forms and gathering necessary documents.
2. Credit Assessment & Loan Processing
Conduct background checks and evaluate borrower creditworthiness, income, and business viability.
Submit loan applications for approval and ensure disbursements are timely and compliant with policy.
Maintain thorough documentation of loan files and client information.
3. Loan Monitoring & Client Support
Follow up with borrowers’ post-disbursement to ensure proper loan utilization.
Visit clients regularly to monitor their business performance and repayment capacity.
Provide financial literacy and advisory support to borrowers where necessary.
4. Collections & Recovery
Track repayment schedules and ensure timely collection of due installments.
Proactively follow up with clients on missed payments to prevent default.
Implement recovery strategies for delinquent accounts, including field visits, renegotiations, or escalations.
Maintain detailed records of collection efforts and outcomes.
5. Reporting & Portfolio Management
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on loan performance, disbursements, and collections.
Analyze repayment trends and recommend actions to improve recovery rates.
Meet loan disbursement and recovery targets as set by management.
Qualifications & Experience
HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Banking & Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
1–3 years of experience in microfinance, loan disbursement, or collections.
Experience in both individual and group lending models is a plus.
Ability to learn on the
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, especially in recovery situations.
Strong fieldwork orientation with the ability to engage rural and urban borrowers.
Proficiency in basic MS Office and loan management software.
High integrity, strong ethics, and attention to detail.
